Cheap Medical Insurance In -- Time-Tested Tips For Big Discounts

By Chimezirim Odimba

Do you want to get adequate medical insurance for a lot less? If you must get big discounts, then you must NOT fail to do certain things. Following are a few of such things...

1. There are established name brands in the pharmaceutical industry. If you buy such drugs, your premium will be more. For those who don't know, the law stipulates that all drugs must have the same active ingredients irrespective of if they are brand name or generic. The inactive agents are the only differences between generic drugs and brand names.

The truth remains that you only pay more when you buy an established brand name drug and do NOT get anything extra in value. Nevertheless, make sure you ask a doctor you can really trust about this before you make your final decision.

2. An easy but smart way of reducing your premium is by authorizing an EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer). it authorizes your bank to credit your insurer with your premium payments without any intervention from you until you stipulate otherwise. This reduces costs by removing the necessity of payment notices or checks. This is why this attracts cheaper premium.

3. For folks who have a pre-existing condition that makes it hard or costlier for them to get private personal health care coverage, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) insurance would offer a more affordable alternative.

4. Individuals who operate home businesses are given a unique chance to pay less by certain states. Such states demand that insurance companies offer home based businesses similar rates as they do other (bigger) businesses.

In other states your home business qualifies for a group rate once it employs a staff.

You can have your spouse or grown up child to work as a member of staff. Moreover, you will still be eligible if that single staff works only part time.

This will give your reasonable savings as group rates are usually lower than individual rates.

To know if you qualify or even if your state has such a provision, call your state's department of insurance, department of financial services or their equivalent.

5. There are things that you'd do well not to see a doctor about as it only adds to your health care spend without doing you any real good. Clear example are viral infections like flu for which your doctor can't help. There are simple steps you should apply and if you go to the doctor you'll pay and still be given the same remedies.

If your doctor can't do anything about a health condition then I think it is unwise to spend about $100 to see him or her. Other instances are little bruises that just simple first aid will take care of. If you do not know such little things take out time to read books on them especially if you have little children. There are many things that you can (and should) handle if you have taken the time to learn and as well have a well-stocked first aid box.

However, if you do not know what to do, go on and visit a doctor. But, please, know your bounds and be aware that there are things you must refer to a doctor even if you know what to do. You are not simply allowed by law to handle some things unless you're a certified medical doctor even if you know what to do. Handle what you should and allow your doctor do those he/she should. This will decrease your visits to the doctor and, as well, lower your cost. - 29971
