Unclaimed Scholarships - Only Few Students Are Aware Of These Less Conventional Sources Of Funding

By James Scholaris

The constantly rising cost of college is something which isn't news to anyone, but it is something which can cause a lot of trouble for those looking to further their education. There are scholarships available for students, though almost all have specific criteria which students must meet in order to qualify.

Not many students are aware of wacky scholarships. So thousands of $ are wasted each year in this scholarships simply because no one has applied for it. They are scholarships given to students who have odd or unique personalities or hobbies. They may sound strange to others and hence they are wacky scholarships.

Quite a few of these less well known scholarships end up going unclaimed every year since very few people are even aware of their existence. While these scholarships may be somewhat strange, even downright bizarre, they're something which any student would do well to have a look at.

There is a scholarship offered by the Tall Clubs International. This $1,000 scholarship is available to students who are over 6' 2" in height (or 5' 8" and up for female students). Exceptionally short students aren't left out either - there are also scholarships awarded to students who are shorter than 4' 10" by the Little People of America and the Billy Barty Foundation. If you happen to be overweight, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance may have a scholarship for you as well. The NAAFA awards two scholarships annually to members of the association on a merit basis.

If these wacky scholarships are a source of amazement (or perhaps amusement) to you, there's others you may want to learn about. For example, if you're a Star Trek fan this one in particular may interest you.

If this has boggled your mind, then you should know about these wacky scholarships. If you are a diehard star trek fan then you probably have collected the memoirs. All you need to do is just bring that. The Klingon Language institute offers $500 Kor memorial scholarship to one person simply to promote the language. And you don't need to know the Klingon language to win it.

These wacky scholarships are only a small sampling of the many unconventional sources of funding for college which are available to students who are willing to seek them out. There are also scholarships awarded to caddies, vegans, artists and really any social or occupational group you can think of! - 29971
